River Point - Proposal

Parcel H is an unexecuted proposal for the redevelopment of a disused federal property located at Buzzard Point in Southwest Washington, DC. The program calls for the reconfiguration and adaptive re-use of a large office block into a series of residential buildings, with below grade parking and ground floor retail. The proposal was intended to serve as an anchor along the Anacostia River trail, a revitalized pedestrian path linking riverfront development in Southwest and Southeast DC, with a focus on sustainable and resilient urban design. The design carved the large, obsolete office block into a series of bars to reopen previously obstructed view-sheds; created a new boardwalk to support the redevelopment of the pedestrian riverside trail; and provided features to address anticipated flood events.
