R2L was founded in 2010, leveraging a depth of experience in the design and construction of urban residential, mixed-use, commercial interiors, institutional, and historic projects. During the most severe and prolonged economic recession in a generation, the firm first opened its doors in an historic row house in Georgetown. The firm promptly set about rethinking how architects collaborate with clients, builders, consultants, and jurisdictions and others to create buildings and places of lasting value which meet our clients’ needs, enhance the public realm, and achieve greater sustainability. Through continued focus on these efforts, the firm quickly expanded, hiring a talented team of motivated architects and designers. Within its first four years of operation, R2L provided its clients with full range of entitlement, design, and construction phase services on projects ranging from renovations of historic structures to urban multifamily high-rise buildings. Today, with a team of eighteen, R2L has designed projects totaling over 5 million square feet of space and 5,000 units of housing, with a market value exceeding $1 billion. R2L’s work is located in most jurisdictions around the Washington metropolitan area, as well as in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, Charlotte, and New York.
