1350 Florida Avenue

1350 Florida Avenue lies at the corner of 14th Street and Florida Avenue, NW, in DC’s Greater U Street Historic District and Arts Overlay Zone. Developed by the Douglas Development Corporation, the building’s design responds to a series of challenging site features: an irregular wedge-shaped site, a neighboring historic structure, and an adjacent underground Metro tunnel. The building’s exterior composition of brick piers, terra cotta panels, and large multi-paned windows represents a contemporary reinterpretation of the vernacular urban industrial masonry construction historically found along the 14th Street corridor. The design was approved by DC’s Historic Preservation Office, the Board of Zoning Adjustment, and the Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association.
